It’s so funny how much nirvana obviously influenced the pixies even though they say it’s not true. Just listen to the umass song is a straight up rip off of teen spirit. At least they had good taste.

I just realized that this is Frank Black's parody of Seattle Grunge. Look at the band and especially the singer in the video. Young, fit, long haired "cool guys" that dpn't look at all like Frank Black. Maybe it was obvious to everyone else, but i find it interesting. Even the song sounds a bit too "grunge" for his usual style.

What a playlist ! And almost as much classics missing...

Pixies were always a very tight band. The quality of the performances were - and are - consistantly brilliant. So many bands can't say that. It's an exceptional quality. Go see them if you ever get the chance. This is in addition to being the greatest band in human history, which is also a pretty nice quality.

I use to see them in Boston in the mid to later eighties with 20 or 30 other people many times. Always thought they were amazing but still shocked at the success they have had.

You realize the true dynamic and how special it is when Charles, Kim, Joey, and David would put down the songs that essentially Charles had all control in writing… because it most definitely did not sound the same on any of his solo albums, of which he is *also* in control of writing. It’s still good, but nowhere near the “lightning in a bottle” effect when the Pixies are playing those songs.

I got kicked out of this club once.

Charles is so awesome, Kim is a stupid whore.

All four members contribute so much to the sound. Black Francis' bizarre intensity, Kim's backup vocals and sturdy baselines, Joey's strange and droning guitar lines, and David's solid drumming. Individually they are all great, then you put them all together and you get Pixies, one of the greatest bands of all time. A unique band indeed. There's nobody else like them

Growing up in the early Boston punk scene '77 on- I might have been at this show. What I do know is that I had seen so many worthy locals' bands that fame had escaped them, and I believed The Pixies we're going to be the same. So glad they eventually got the acclaim they so rightly deserved but I'm rather shocked that they did!
